Accessible Beaches for almost seven million Americans that depend on assistance to travel each year on vacations to the beach or simple family trips. On a larger scale, there are roughly more than 30 million individuals in the world that require a wheelchair to get around.

Those who decide to travel and explore the world can be very difficult without the right accommodations. While the beach may have been a popular spot for tourists to visit not many of them offered accommodations to assist with wheelchair transportation. There are now many beaches all over the world that have ramps that lead to oceanfront and provide lifts to assist with cliffs and difficult walkways.

The Galapagos was originally discovered by Tomas de Berlanga in 1535 when he was blown off course and ended up on the island. Today, the island is a popular tourist destination that offers beautiful beaches like the Puerto Chino. While the island is said to be rugged, many organizations have made the island more wheelchair accessible

. A 20-minute paved path from the parking lot leads directly to the green coasts of the beach, allowing guests to stroll in the sand and enjoy the water close-up.

Tybee Island is one of the many barrier islands that protects Georgia’s coast. The beach has a few wheelchair equipped platforms where visitors can access the beach. You can watch the baby turtles escape to the cool waters to start off their new lives. You can also visit the museum near the beach to learn more about the turtles and other wildlife in the area. The beach offers roll-in showers and bathrooms, along with open spaces to have a picnic or just enjoy the summer’s sun. You can even ride along the Mobi-Mats, a special walkway designed to create better access to beaches and other areas, or rent one of the many motorized wheelchairs available.
