Best beaches in Mexico - My favorite Ten
Mexico has been blessed by nature with many thousands of beach coastlines. On the west the Pacific Ocean bathes Mexico from the border with the USA on Baja California all the way to the border with Guatemala on the State of Chiapas. On the East it has the Gulf of Mexico from Tampico near the USA border to the State of Yucatan followed by the Mexican jewel of the Mayan Riviera.
Puerto Vallarta on Mexico's Pacific Ocean
The Beaches of Puerto Vallarta
This popular beach city features some of the best Mexican Beaches. The wide Banderas Bay has a 42 Km long sandy beach.
The most popular public beach in Vallarta is Playa los Muertos, with many palapa restaurants and many water sports stands like parasailers, volley ball and others.
On the north there is an exclusive development called Punta Mita with white sands and crystal clear waters.
Surfing at its best in Puerto Escondido Mexico
Playa Zicatela in Puerto Escondido.
This is one of the best values in Mexico. It is located on the very south coast of Mexico’s Pacific in the State of Oaxaca east of Puerto Escondido. This beach offers a great surfing opportunity and hosts annual surfing competitions during August and November. This is for expert surfers only because the swells may reach 2 to 5 meters.
Playa La Ropa close to Zihuatanejo
When visiting the side by side resorts of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo don’t miss Playa La ropa. It is a wide beautiful beach great for swimming and enjoying water sports. It is a perfect mile long beach and the waves are mild, ideal for swimmers. La Ropa has a few places to eat that range from Mom and Pop eateries of Mexican Food, that in my opinion are the best ones, to four and five star restaurants.
Playa Norte in Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is a small island off the coast of Cancun, reachable by ferry. It has many great beaches but Playa Norte is the best. It is a shallow beach great for snorkeling, scuba diving, and boating. The sand is like in most Caribbean Islands, white like baby powder and the water is clear with various shades of turquoise and blue.
Tulum is one of the Best Beaches in Mexico
This paradise is located near the ancient ruins of Tulum on the Caribbean Sea south on the Mayan Riviera far from the crowded hotels and resorts. The sands are so white and the waters so clear that you won’t stop taking pictures. People back home wouldn’t believe your stories without some proof. Beside the beach you may explore the ruins and the nature preserve.
Playa Palmilla in Los Cabos
This is a setting of dramatic rock formations that crash with the force of the waves and wide stretches of sand that are a delight for visitors. There are palapas on the beach providing the necessary shade. The waters are almost always calm. The beach is protected by a rocky point, and the water is almost always calm.
Playa del Carmen is the "in" place on the Mayan Riviera
“Playa” as it is nicknamed is one of Mexico’s latest successes. It has become and very important tourist destination. It is located about an hour south of Cancun and it is a town important by itself.
Playa del Carmen beaches are like only the Caribbean can feature. The attitude is laid back and low key. Nobody is in a hurry. So during the day you walk to the long beach, back to your hotel in the evening to your favorite pub and restaurant and repeat all over again the day after.
But Playa is not only beaches,
once here you may visit the Mayan Ruins of Tulum and the eco parks of Xel Ha
and Xcaret Park. If time permits you may want to take a short ferry ride to the
nearby island of Cozumel with all its attractions and some of the Best Beaches in Mexico.
La Entrega in Huatulco one of the Best Beaches in Mexico
Playa La Entrega in Huatulco, Oaxaca
This is a long beach on the southernmost part of the Bay of Santa Cruz, one of Huatulco Bays. It is very popular for swimming, snorkeling and diving. It is accessible by land and boat. It features a few palapa restaurants.
Playa Gaviotas in Mazatlan
It is located along the Golden Zone of Mazatlan. This is a great beach for people watching. It is excellent for sunbathers, swimmers and for all kind of water sports. It has plenty of restaurants.
This is as I said my choice for the best beaches of Mexico, but the truth is that if I was going to really mention Mexico’s best beaches I would mention at least one hundred. As we keep showing you the best beaches of the world we’ll keep talking about Mexico.

Nothing compares to amazing Acapulco Bay
Acapulco has many beaches on its spectacular bay; I am not going to mention any particular one because for me Acapulco means a lot. I have visited Acapulco countless times for the last 50 years. Acapulco has been described in many songs by great composers. It has been the typical honeymoon sport for generations and it is still popular and full of live like ever.
There are beaches for families
with children like Playa Caleta; beaches for surfers like Playa el Remolcadero.
But above all Acapulco is pure nightlife and entertainment and of course, one of the Best Beaches in Mexico.
