Guadeloupe Beaches
In the French Caribbean

Guadeloupe beaches are among the best Caribbean Beaches. These beaches are visited by thousands of tourists a year coming mainly from France, the rest of Europe and North America.

Guadeloupe Island is the seat of the overseas department of the French Caribbean.

The others are neighboring Martinique, St Barth, Marie Galante, Iles des Saintes and St Martin Island.

The Beaches of Guadeloupe

The beaches of Guadeloupe are surrounded by the warm waters of the Leeward Antilles which are crystal clear and with abundant marine life to attract scuba divers and snorkelers by the crowds.

The island itself is full of lush vegetation giving this island and Martinique a feeling of green not felt in other islands. So, that said, after or before a day on the beach you may want to do so hiking and explore the beautiful nature of the island an its abundant fauna.

Some of the beaches are made of white or beige sands while others feature black ands of volcanic origin.

Let me make a choice of the beaches I have visited many times during my decades in the Caribbean. It is a difficult choice, because they are all spectacular.

Pain de Sucre or Sugar Loaf Beach in Guadeloupe

Pain de Sucre or Sugar Loaf Beach in Guadeloupe

Plage du Pain de Sucre

This is the most emblematic beach of Iles des Saintes. White sands bordered by palm trees, crystal clear waters and a temperature of 28°Celcius is what will take your breath away. It is shaded by the famous Pain de Sucre or Bread loaf "similar" to the one in Rio de Janeiro.

Arawak Beach

This is an amazing spot with many swaying palms providing the necessary shade on the soft sands. It is also protected by breakwaters, making it ideal for families with children for a great day of swimming and sun tanning.

Callinago Beach

This is a smaller beach than Arawak but still offers plenty of good sands and may palms. The waters are equally clear and warm.

Guadeloupe Beaches

Plage de la Malendure.

This beach is located on the west side of Basse-Terre, which is also the more peaceful side. The combination of seclusion and ambiance is what makes this beach attractive.

If you are looking for beauty and scenery, this is your beach in Guadeloupe

Le Bas du Fort

Close to 2 km away from Pointe a Pitre the capital of Guadeloupe and also close to Gosier, this is a popular beach. Two hotels share this stretch of beach and the general public is also welcome. It is a typical tropical beach with plenty of sands and tranquil waters.

Caravelle Beach

This beach located in St Anne is home to the Club Med Caravelle one of the veterans of Club Med since its inception. Just by that you can imagine what a beach we are talking about here.

The area of Gosier

This area features a few beaches one next to the other with many hotels bars and restaurants for the benefit of thirsty beach goers.

Anse St Marguerite

This beach is good for scuba diving and snorkeling but not so much for swimming. I always mention in my articles that the Atlantic Ocean sides of the Caribbean Islands have rough waters due to the open ocean. The Caribbean site is usually calm.

Anse Maurice

This beach is close to Anse St Margueritè. The beach is protected from the big waves by rocks put there on purpose to break them. Meaning this beach is appropriate for swimming and sun bathing. Here you may find more shade and some food in the kiosks.

Plage de Bois Jolan

Located on the Caribbean side it is a family beach frequented by locals. It is located between St Anne and St Francois.

Pointe Tarare

This is beach near Gosier. The beach is beautiful and quiet. The shores of Tarare are some of the cleanliest on the islands, but you won’t’ find enough shade and I’d better say no shade. Bring your umbrella ans chairs and enjoy this beautiful beach.

Anse Canot

It is a crescent shaped beach located on the western coast of Guadeloupe. It is a beautiful and relaxed beach. But it also features lots of activities and water sports.

In other pages I will show you the other French Caribbean Islands beaches. If you want instant information please go my veteran site on the Caribbean’s section on the French Caribbean Islands for lots of information.
