Huatulco Mexico is known as “Las Bahias de Huatulco” or Huatulco Bays, is a hidden Mexican secret in the coast of the State of Oaxaca, the southern state on the Pacific Ocean near the border with Guatemala.

Since it is located on the southern tip of the Sierra Madre range of mountains, it is known by its high mountains, lush vegetation and awe inspiring waterfalls that surround the bays and its beaches.

It is still not so well known worldwide; therefore it is the right moment to visit. The Bays of Huatulco consist of 35 Km of coastline including 9 bays and 36 beaches. It has been designated by the Mexican Government as an Ecological Reserve.

The waters of the beaches are crystal clear and full of spectacular marine life. Huatulco weather is warm all year. So it is ideal for those visitors of cold winter countries.

Santa Cruz area Beaches

  • Playa La Entrega

    It is the southernmost of the Santa Cruz beaches, and very popular for swimming, snorkeling and diving. The waves are for good swimmers, because they change from moderate to strong with no previous notice. This beach features many “Palapa” restaurants and restrooms.
  • Playa Yerbabuena

    This one is located on the western shore of Santa Cruz Bay, north of Playa La Entrega. It is only accessible by boat and the waves are to be concerned of.

  • Playa Santa Cruz

    It is located on the bay of the same name. Here the waters are calm, with lots of corals and marine life, making it great for snorkeling and scuba diving. This is a developed beach with restaurants, bars and equipment rentals as well as boat rides.
  • Playa Chahue

    This area is in development and has a public beach, several hotels and shops as well as restaurants near the main road.

    The beaches are typically tropical with lots of vegetation into rock formations. There is a marina serving the boats and yachts of the residents and visitors.

  • Playa Consuelo – It is a small beach accessible only by boat.

  • Playa El Arrocito – This is a hidden cove that you can see if you get to the top of the hill. This is a perfect setting for a romantic getaway.

  • Playa Ventura

  • Playa Manzanilla

  • Playa Tornillo - These three beaches are located together on the western shore of Bahía Tangolunda. They are great waters for swimming, snorkeling and water sports.

  • Playa Rincón Sabroso is another great beach. This one is located west of Tangolunda Bay.

Bahia Tangolunda offers a few great beaches like

The area of Bahia Tangolunda is the one that is more rapidly developed. Many luxury hotels have been built in the area, besides beautiful residences. It is important to mention that the best golf course on the Mexican Pacific is in Huatulco.

  • Conejos Bay - This is another bay east of Tangolunda that has pristine beaches like:

  • Playa Tejoncito – This one has shallow waters good for swimming and snorkeling. It may be accesed only by boat.

  • Playa Arena – This one is an almost virgin beach with strong surf. Playa Arena and Playa Punta Arena are located next to each other on Conejos Bay. They offer refreshments and some food.

  • Playa San Agustín – This is a small village that can be reaches by bus or taxi. There are many restaurants lining the beach

  • Playa La India – Some say it is the most scenic of all Huatulco beaches. It is only accessible by boat.

  • Playa Jicaral – The waves are moderate on this stretch of white sand beach. It is great for swimming.

  • Playa Riscalillo - This is one more beach accessible only by boat. It is worth the effort. It has fine sands and gentle waves.

  • Playa Calacuta – The claim to fame of this beach is that the 2001 Mexican film “Y tu Mama Tambien” was filmed here.

  • Playa Maguey and Playa del Organo – These are two bays practically united with white soft sands and warm bluish and greenish waters. These beaches are very popular for the quietness of its waters

Huatulco Mexico is slowly becoming a big competitor among the Mexican Pacific Beach resorts. Its beaches surpass those of Acapulco Beaches or Mazatlan Beaches.
