On the Indian Ocean

Mauritius Beaches are of white sands turquoise warm waters and surrounded by palms and other vegetation. The Island of Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean near the Island of Reunion both located east of the big Island of Madagascar and south of the world known Seychelles Beaches.

The island features also many lagoons with clear waters and the whole island is surrounded by coral reefs making it a heaven for scuba divers.

Let’s divide the island into its four coasts and summarize the best beaches,

North Coast Beaches in Mauritius

The north is known for many activities on the beaches including many water sports like windsurfing, waterskiing, deep sea fishing, sailing and parasailing.

  • Grand Bay is one of Mauritius best beaches it is public and full of activities.
  • Trou aux Biches is one of the most popular beaches of Mauritius
  • Mont Choisy is almost 3 km long with beautiful turquoise waters.
  • La Cuvette is a public beach near Grand Bay
  • Pereybere is only accessible coming from Grand Baie great for snorkeling.

  • Blue Bay located southeast near the town of Mahebourg
  • Belle Mare is a long stretch of beach fringed by casuarinas
  • Ile aux Cerfs Island just off the coast of Mauritius and accessible by boat

This area is the “virgin” side of the Islands with wild scenery, high cliffs, big waves and dramatic sights of the water hitting the rocks.

  • St Félix is located on the very south of Mauuritius
  • Riviere des Galets is the place to view the big waves and relax
  • Gris Gris with magnivicent views from the top of the cliffs
  • Riviere des Galets is located between Souillac and Bel Ombre.
  • Ilôt Sancho is a small island accessible through a very shallow strait.

West Coast Beaches of Mauritius

Enjoy beautiful beaches and magnificent sunsets along the West coast of Mauritius.

  • Flic en Flac  is a blue lagoon with shallow waters
  • Tamarin Beach on the slopes of the Black River Mountain, cut in half by the Tamarin River.
  • Le Morne Beaches on a peninsula on the southwest of the island. The beaches of Le Morne are public.
