Nerja Beaches are part of the Costa del Sol Beaches.
Nerja, located 55 km east of Malaga, is a seaside resort with a few very nice beaches with many coves all backed by the impressive Sierra de Almijara Mountains.
The weather is mild year round. Some of the beaches I will mention here Burriana and Torrecilla have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag award.
Let me introduce you to the best beaches of Nerja in the Malaga Province.
Playa Burriana near Nerja in the Costa del Sol Spain
This is the best of Nerja Beaches with white sands and pebbles and has been awarded not only the Blue Flag but also the Q-Standard Award for being very organized and clean.
Here you will find all the amenities you may expect including umbrellas and sun beds. There are various stands for water sports and you will be able to practice scuba diving, among many others. The beach is about 800m long and about 40 m wide.
There are many good restaurants and bars on the beach, some of them offering great fish ans seafood. There is also an arcade with many shops with beach things and souvenirs.
You can reach Burriana Beach by car; sorry there is no bus service to this beach, or walking from the town center.
Playa Torrecilla a blue Flag Beach in Nerja Costa del Sol Spain
As mentioned above this beach has also been awarded the Blue Flag award and is very popular among the Nerja Beaches. It is located on the other side of town from Burriana. Its waters are shallow and the beach is wide and comfortable for families with small children. The waters are always calm.
Here you’ll find plenty bars and restaurants and of course, umbrellas, sun beds and other amenities.
This small beach can be reached via the Balcon de Europa Hotel or coming from Calahonda Beach. The sands here are softer than the other local beaches.
This beach is located on the Paseo de los Carabineros, the coastal promenade. Go down through Carabeo Street via some steps. The beach has no facilities, so it’s less crowded and offers a restaurant during the summer months.
Playa Carabeillo is one of the beaches near Nerja Spain
This beach is located between Buriana and Carabeo Beaches. You may reach this beach from the Coastal promenade or from Burriana Beach.
Playa El Chucho
This is a small beach is between El Playazo Beach and Torrecilla, at the mouth of the Chillar River. It is ideal for sun bathing with a nice breeze blowing from the east. It is a beach of pebbles, not so easy to walk.
Playa El Salon near downtown Nerja Spain
Playa el Salón
Even though the beach is very near downtown Nerja it is still quiet secluded and unknown by the masses of visitors.
It is located to the west of El Balcon de Europa Hotel. You’ll find the Unicaja Bank and a cobbled walkway that will lead you down to El Salon Beach. It is a real pretty beach with fishermen’s cottages where they still live, making it very picturesque. This beach has no facilities, but being so close to downtown it is worth a try.
Playa Calahonda one of Nerja Beaches in Costa del Sol
To reach this beach try to find the Balcon de Europa Hotel and to its east is the path leading to the beach. The path is steep but the visit to this beach is worth the effort. It is a well organized beach with sun beds and umbrellas and a restaurant open during the summer months.
The beach is a mix of sands and pebbles and the waters are alm due to the huge rocks on both sides of the beach.
Playa El Chorillo
Located between Playa Calahonda and Playa Carabeo, this small cove may be reached from the coastal path, Paseo de los Carabineros.

Playa El Playazo
This 2.5 km long beach is located at the western end of the town of Nerja, between Torrecilla and El Chucho beaches. It is a rough beach and a great place to escape the crowds. The beach offers all amenities and facilities for water sports and also restaurants during summer. This beach is perfect for long strolls on a mix of sand and small pebbles.
Nerja Beaches are a great escape from the big crowds you experience at the Malaga Beaches. Just an hour drive away from the big city and you are in a different world.
