Samana Dominican Republic
Sandy Beaches and Clear Waters

Samana Dominican Republic is located on the north coast of the Hispaniola Island and most of it is in a peninsula.

If you like green mountains, long sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and tranquility with a little action in one of the small towns, Samana is for you a paradise, far from the big cities of Santo Domingo and Puerto Plata.

Samana Peninsula

Samana peninsula has it all besides white sands an azure waters, the coconut covered mountains coming down direct to the sea.

This is one of the best honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean. The sounds of bachata, salsa and meringue played by local bands are the perfect compliment for Romantic Getaways.

I hope that the authorities of the Republica Dominicana will keep Samana as it is now, far from the heavy development of other sites in the Republic and the Caribbean.

Enjoy a Laid Back Feeling

Here you can still enjoy the quiet and laid back feeling that is slowly disappearing from the Caribbean Beaches. For Christopher Columbus it was “the fairest land on the face of the earth,” and for the proud Dominicanos is the prettiest area of their lovely country.

If you want action, you may go horseback riding, besides swimming, Caribbean Snorkeling and Scuba Diving and many more activities that include cooperation with Mother Nature.

When the season of whale watching comes, Samana is the right place to be. It is recognized as the best place to be in the Caribbean for such a show from nature.

Just sit on a comfortable place while sipping your favorite drink and watch as nature takes care of its animals. Scuba diving is also great here, because of the many corals in the underwater in front of its coasts.

How to get to Samana Dominica Republic

There is a small airport called El Portillo with commuter flights to the capital Santo Domingo.

A few years ago an International Airport was open at El Catey receiving tourists direct from Europe, mainly German and Italian tourists, as well as tourists from the USA and Canada.

Another way is arriving into Santo Domingo and Santiago Dominican Republic airports and rent a car for the easy driving to Samana.

There are some inexpensive means of travel by bus, but I do not recommend them for the new visitors inexperienced with the country and the language.

Getting around

Samana can be seen on foot or by taxi. The best idea is to rent your own vehicle or even better a 4x4 jeep to take advantage of the possibility of driving through the sandy roads of the northwest side of the peninsula.
